5 signs it’s Time to renovate your Bathroom

If you’re like most homeowners in Ireland and around the world, your bathroom will be one of the most frequently used rooms in your home. And while we all dream of having a beautiful, elegant and stylish bathroom for our families and guests to enjoy, the reality is often far from that. Given their sheer amount of use, many bathrooms end up looking gloomy, dated and just a bit grimy.

Even though a bathroom renovation can be pricey, if you can relate to one or more of the following five scenarios, then it might be time to invest the time and effort that’s required to give your bathroom a much-needed makeover:

No matter how much you clean, it still looks dirty and mouldy.

We all know the feeling; you’ve just cleaned your bathroom a couple of days ago, but somehow, just a few days later, it already looks dirty and tired again. Sound familiar? If so, it might be time to realise that your bathroom needs more than just ‘the once over’ every few days. Its fixtures and fittings might be dated which makes them more susceptible to harbouring dirt and grime.

You are sick and tired of your old design.

Has it been years since you’ve given your bathroom a redesign? Have those green tiles and fixtures with the floral pattern run their course? What may have looked good in the 80s won’t necessarily look good today so if you’re sick of looking at your old fashioned and out-dated bathroom, it’s defiantly time for a revamp.

Your fixtures are broken.

Years and years of daily use have most probably left obvious signs of wear and tear on your fixtures. And while it is possible to repair minor scuffs and chips, if your bathtub, toilet, shower or sink are cracked or significantly broken, a renovation will make the most sense. It will be better value in the long run and more efficient to replace the whole bathroom instead of single fixtures.

Your plumbing needs a complete overhaul.

Are leaking pipes, dripping taps and inadequate water pressure issues that you’re currently dealing with? If so, it’s time to get your plumbing looked at – and fast. Re-plumbing your bathroom can be quite a big job so it makes perfect sense to update your fixtures and fittings and renovate the whole area while undertaking such a project.

One of the most important benefits of renovating a bathroom is the value that it can add to a property. Regardless of what you may think, when it comes to potential buyers who may be interested in your property, the bathroom will be one of the areas that they’ll vigorously inspect. Even if you are not planning to sell your house in the next couple of years, it is a great investment for the future. So why not enjoy a lovely, modern bathroom yourself instead of installing it just before you sell?

So, the next time you enter your bathroom, take a good look around and think about all that has been said above. If any (or all) of the five points resonate with you, it’s time to stop making excuses and start renovating!
